Microsoft Making A Play For Claria?

Rumored Microsoft Adware Deal Raises Red Flags

Clara makes the Gator adserving spyware software. It is one of the particularly nasty versions of adware. Hate it, removed it dozens of times from client’s boxes.

Claria’s adware applications include eWallet, DateManager, WeatherScope and PrecisionTime, and the company’s behavior-tracking database of users’ surfing habits is believed to be among the biggest in the world.

Maybe their database and tracking software will give Microsoft a jump on Google, Yahoo and Amazon’s user databases, but it kind of seems to me like buying stolen property, rewarding the criminal for their acts.

Surely they’ll shutdown the disbursement branch and only use their intellectual property (db and tracking software).
