Home Wireless Network Security
Whenever I travel to a friend’s house its always interesting to see what wireless networks I can browse from their location. One friend in particular who lives at a rather large apartment complex has no less than eight different accessible wireless networks nearby. Most of these are freely available for outsiders to use for Internet access, not that the owner intended that use or maybe even is aware his cable/dsl connection is being used by others.
Some access points even allow network browsing of the PCs on the inside of the router, although the default configurations of most wireless devices now is making this harder to find. If I can browse your PC, I can read your email, see your browser cache where you’ve downloaded your banking history and have access to virtually all of the data on it.
How To Secure Your Wireless Network is a quick primer on securing your home wireless network even a tech novice should be able to follow with a little trial and error.
