Update tzdata for New Daylight Savings Time

The fed mandated daylight savings time changes go into effect this weekend. To ensure you have the updated days do a quick test

zdump -v /etc/localtime | grep 2007

If you see this Sunday’s date March 11 2007 then you have the updated package. Sunday’s DST change should be handled.

[root@calypso files]# zdump -v /etc/localtime | grep 2007
347:/etc/localtime Sun Mar 11 07:59:59 2007 UTC = Sun Mar 11 01:59:59 2007 CST isdst=0 gmtoff=-21600
348:/etc/localtime Sun Mar 11 08:00:00 2007 UTC = Sun Mar 11 03:00:00 2007 CDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-18000
349:/etc/localtime Sun Nov 4 06:59:59 2007 UTC = Sun Nov 4 01:59:59 2007 CDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-18000
350:/etc/localtime Sun Nov 4 07:00:00 2007 UTC = Sun Nov 4 01:00:00 2007 CST isdst=0 gmtoff=-21600

If you see April 1 2007 your tzdata package needs updating. Upgrade with your favorite package tool up2date, yum, apt-get…
